Haryana’s Health and Sports Minister Anil Vij has offered some pearls of wisdom two days before.
CHANDIGARH: Haryana’s Health and Sports Minister Anil Vij on Tuesday said all those opposing yoga were “traitors”, and the mouths of such traitors should be “kept shut”.
“Yoga is an ancient wisdom through which India has been recognised throughout the world. Those opposing it are traitors. Their mouths should be kept shut,” Vij, a senior BJP leader, tweeted.
“Yoga means to unite. Those who want to split, they will never accept it,” he said.
The tweets came in the wake of the latest controversy over some religious and political leaders accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of using yoga to promote Hinduism.
It’s rather interesting to read his civilized opinion which can probably be the result of his enlightenment achieved through years and years of Sadhana.
Earlier, one Union Minister announced in a public meeting that either we should accept we are sons of Ram or we don’t believe the country. Now one minister says either you accept Yoga or you are a traitor. The irony is that they tag anyone who oppose their overtures as ‘divisive’.
Probably they think the hegemony with which they shove down anything, be it Ram or Yoga Day, on our throats, is their birth right and something we are supposed to accept as obedient secondary citizens.
Popular Yoga Gurus and heads of Govt. remain silent to such an outrageous statement, as if they endorse it. Instead we see pictures of Gujarat Muslim school girls practicing Yoga in newspapers today which says a lot about the times we live in. Why do you choose to post the pic of those girls when you keep on ranting about nothing religious about Yoga? Isn’t that a cheap publicity trick to convey your message that they TOO do it?
I have never been against Yoga. On the contrary I respect this practice, which has actually benefited many people with various ailments and has helped many in general to maintain a better health. But now thanks to this statement and the arm-twisting across the schools all over India, I am all against your hegemonic Yoga or Yoga Day.
